In the coming 2024 election, Bernie Sanders is likely to be the strongest candidate to challenge Trump for the White House. While the political landscape has shifted in recent years, historical patterns and American sensibility continue to play significant roles in shaping the outcome.

Why Bernie Sanders?

According to my analysis, Bernie Sanders would be the safest bet to take on Trump in 2024 for a simple reason: no one else wants to risk the same fate as Biden in 2020, who faced a potential curb-stomping by Trump. Furthermore, the current electoral system, despite the potential for Trump to achieve at least 300 electoral votes, may not favor a repeat performance of 2020.

America's Wealth Patterns: Historical and Contemporary

Several years ago, I read an intriguing study on American millionaires and their wealth accumulation. The key findings were that most of these individuals were self-made, and a majority were not in white-collar jobs as one might expect. The formula for financial success, according to the study, was summarised as hard work, frugality, and thoughtful financial planning. This insight confirmed my belief that in America, people generally get what they deserve, a principle that has been a cornerstone of the country's greatness.

However, the pattern described in the study may no longer hold true today. The younger generations now face a different challenge, where the notion that one gets what they deserve is less prevalent. This shift in sensibility poses a significant challenge for political leaders to address and restore the faith in the system.

Electoral Politics and American Sensibility

Four years ago, I accurately predicted Trump's victory based on the collective sentiment that something was fundamentally wrong with the political system. Clinton, as the Democratic nominee, failed to restore that sense of faith in the system. Instead, her candidacy seemed to exacerbate the doubts among many Americans. Although the election was close, it signaled a significant flaw that Trump exploited.

As for Joe Biden, although many in my generation view his tenure as a return to normalcy, it's important to recognize that our world has changed. We must adapt to this change rather than trying to recreate the past. Biden and others of my generation need to acknowledge that the world we grew up in is gone and create a new framework that once again instills a sense of fairness and equality in the land of opportunities.
