Arya Stark: Will She Kill Drogon or Dany in Game of Thrones Finale?

SPOILER WARNING: This article discusses Game of Thrones season 8 finale details. Continue reading at your own risk.

Highly Unlikely, They're Heading in Opposite Directions

With the series finale of Game of Thrones rapidly approaching, much speculation has surrounded the fate of both Arya Stark and Daenerys Targaryen. It appears highly unlikely that Arya will take Dany's life, given their current trajectories. Drogon, Daenerys' dragon, was last seen flying east back towards Essos, while Arya was traveling west, inquiring, "What lies west of Westeros? No one knows."

Heading West: Discovery of the Unknown

Arya's journey westward promises a journey of discovery. Given her expertise in assassination, it's reasonable to assume that her survival for a purpose will be revealed in the finale. She's already accomplished the seemingly impossible by killing the Night King. However, killing Daenerys would be an extraordinary feat, even for someone with Arya's skills. Instead, it makes more sense for Arya to target the creature that embodies fire, much like she did with the entity that embodied ice.

Drogon as the Target

In Game of Thrones season 8, episode 5, Arya narrowly escaped the fiery inferno of King's Landing, which felt destined or supernatural. This event suggests that she's alive for a significant reason, hinting at the possibility that her purpose is to dispose of someone important. The relationship between Jon Snow and Daenerys has emotional depth, which makes such an assassination tragic and emotional, unlike the connection between Arya and Daenerys.

Considering the Feasibility of Killing Drogon

Considering the practical aspects, beating Daenerys at killing a dragon is challenging. Euron, with his clownish demeanor, was still able to kill a dragon, and it’s more feasible for Arya to take on Drogon. Dragons, including Drogon, have scales that are extremely difficult to penetrate. However, there's a suggestion that a weirwood arrow may be effective, a weapon that has historically proven deadly to dragons in the books. Arya's proficiency as an archer, demonstrated in several episodes, should play a crucial role in the finale.

Destiny and Arrow Theory

The theory that a weirwood arrow will be the instrument of a dragon's demise is not new, and several plot points support this theory. In earlier seasons, the idea of a weirwood arrow bringing down a dragon was a significant plot point, and it's likely that this element will be resurrected in the finale. Arya's skill with the bow, showcased in season 8, suggests that her expertise in this area will be pivotal to her mission.

SPOILERS FOR EP 6:

Do not proceed if you have not seen Game of Thrones season 8, episode 6. In that episode, Arya's fateful confrontation with the Faceless Man, who blinded her, is a significant plot point. It's possible that a similar trick, involving a deadly weapon from the Faceless Men, could determine Arya's fate in the finale. Additionally, her potential destiny as a weapon of death suggests that her archery skills, honed to perfection, will be crucial to her mission.

Conclusion: While the final episode of Game of Thrones is full of surprises, it seems more plausible that Arya will target Drogon, the dragon, rather than Daenerys. Her expertise as an archer, combined with the historical significance of weirwood arrows, makes this the more likely scenario. As the series concludes, Arya's skills and destiny are set to play a defining role in the fate of both herself and the Numerous Deaths universe.
