An Honest Review of Riverdale: Is It Worth Watching?

During my childhood, my cousin introduced me to Archies comics. I loved the entire gang - Archie, Betty, Jughead, and co. I particularly enjoyed how Veronica displayed her wealth and how Betty struggled to win Archie's attention. So, when I learned about the series Riverdale was based on these characters, I jumped at the chance to watch it on Netflix.

Initial Impressions and Character Reinterpretations

Many characters were portrayed very differently on-screen compared to the comics. It was surprising to see different characters, such as Mr. Weatherbee, Ms. Grundy, and Mr. Lodge, portrayed in such a way. While the first season was good, starting with the second season, the show started to go downhill. By the fifth season, there are hints of aliens and spaceships, which I sometimes wonder if were even necessary.

Surprising Aspects of the Show

There are a few things that surprise me:

The enterprising nature of the main characters. It seems their day has more than 24 hours. Each main character is involved in more than one business - Archie is involved in construction, gym, music (though he’s done less of it lately), and even a secret vigilante. Betty is also involved in a school magazine and a budding FBI program, solving mysteries. Hiram’s power. I doubt even a dictator would have so much power. The romantic relationships in their school days. Archie seems to be a serial kisser, and the characters seem to have sex at the drop of a hat.

Overall, the series seems to have gone downhill faster than expected. For these reasons, I honestly believe it's not worth the time and effort.

Conclusion

It is honestly shit. That's as much honest as it can get. The first season was really truly interesting and I really liked it. It all started going downhill really fast from the second season and that's when I stopped. People who have watched till the third really regret it. And whatever the current season is it shouldn’t even have been allowed to go on air. Please save your time and your sanity and skip it.

Some may argue that it started out good, but I've seen the first 2 episodes of season 5 and it isn't that weird quite yet. However, given my personal experience, I would recommend avoiding Riverdale unless you are a die-hard Archie Comics fan and enjoy the creative liberties taken with the characters.
