An Analysis of Doctor Who: My Favourite Actor, Companion, Villain, Location, and Episode

Welcome to a deep dive into the pivotal roles, epic characters, terrifying villains, breathtaking locations, and unforgettable episodes from the popular mythological science fiction series, Doctor Who. This article compiles my personal analysis and recollections of the show, highlighting what makes each element truly stand out.

Best Actor

Choosing a favorite actor to play the Doctor in such a storied and beloved series is no easy task. My decision is split between two iconic actors: Jon Pertwee and Matt Smith. While Matt Smith's portrayal as the Eleventh Doctor resonated with the new generation, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor offers a distinct charm and complexity.

My personal preference leans towards Matt Smith, who brought a fresh and energetic perspective to the role. However, I look forward to exploring how the Thirteenth Doctor under Mandip Gill will shape the narrative, as the show continues to evolve.

Favourite Companion

When it comes to companions, my heart has two favorite spots: Rose for the New Who era and Jo Grant for the Classic Who series. Rose’s resilience and determination were evident in her encounters with the Daleks and manipulation of the time vortex. Similarly, Jo Grant’s wit and intelligence made her a perfect foil to the Third Doctor, especially in the iconic episode Genesis of the Daleks.

Favourite Villain

Among the terrifying foes Doctor Who has faced, the Weeping Angels undoubtedly hold the top spot for me. Their chilling ability to stand still and watch us, before springing into action, is both gruesome and effective. However, the Daleks are also a formidable, if not terrifying, antagonist. These little salt shakers of doom and sass display a level of strategic prowess that is both intense and creepy. While the Daleks are undeniably cool, the Weeping Angels are the most terrifying, with their eerie beauty and sickening method of killing their prey.

Favourite Location

When it comes to location, Doctor Who has a wealth of iconic scenes. However, the Dalek Asylum takes the cake for me. This location, visually stunning and deeply unsettling, perfectly encapsulates the show's unique blend of horror and high adventure. The twisted, trippy architecture and the macabre history of the place create a sense of dread, which perfectly complements the overall atmosphere of the show.

Favourite Episode

Favorite episode? The list is long, but the one that stands out most is Amy Pond's "end-of-days" episode, Time of the Doctor. This episode, where the Twelfth Doctor reconciles with his past and battle with the Weeping Angels, is filled with joy, pathos, and a sense of resolution that few other episodes can match.

Favourite Series

When it comes to series, my vote goes to Series 6, which is often considered the pinnacle of the modern era. This series introduced many new elements that established a sense of continuity, from the Master's return to the development of River Song's character. It proved that the show could handle deep, complex storytelling with the same level of energy and excitement that accompanies the show's action-packed moments.

Favourite Weapon

The Sonic Screwdriver has to be the most powerful weapon in the Doctor's arsenal. Not only is it a multipurpose gadget, but it also serves as a symbol of the Doctor's knowledge, intelligence, and ability to bend time and space to his will. In the episode Mickey and Martha, the Doctor's use of the Sonic Screwdriver to teleport Martha home is a testament to its usefulness and the Doctor's resourcefulness.

I hope this analysis sheds light on how personal preferences play a significant role in making a choice between actors, companions, villains, locations, and episodes in the vast universe of Doctor Who. The show is a testament to the enduring power of mythology and science fiction, inviting fans to explore and engage with its complex characters and intriguing storylines.
