African Women: Beyond Beauty

The term 'African women' often surfaces in discussions that are perhaps too superficial and focused on physical attributes. While beauty is indeed a notable characteristic, it falls short in capturing the immense depth, intelligence, and compassion that define a woman from the expansive African continent.

Beauty in Diversity

There are undoubtedly hundreds of thousands of beautiful women across Africa, each with a unique beauty that captures the eyes and hearts of many. However, as a former general contractor and engineer who devoted 19 years to installing water pumps in several African countries, I have come to understand that beauty in Africa is about so much more than mere physical appearance.

A Mission to Improve Lives

My journey with African women began in 1996 when I visited Kenya as a favor to a pastor in Memphis, Tennessee. His church had a mission to build two churches annually, but the associate pastor could not go that year due to a leg injury. I was asked to take his place and initially accepted the invitation for a two-week stay.

The second day we were there, I witnessed something that deeply moved me. Women in the village left at dawn with buckets to fetch water and returned with full buckets by early afternoon. When I inquired about this to the Maasai pastor, I was informed that the villages lacked freshwater, and it was the women's responsibility to fetch it every day for their communities. This revelation sparked a profound sense of anger in me, knowing that my home had considerable access to fresh water, unlike these women.

Commitment to Change

Anger turned into a strong desire to make a difference. I would later count all the water faucets in my house, which amounted to 15. This realization further fueled my resolve to help. I immediately started a nonprofit organization to procure and install solar-powered freshwater pumps.

For 19 consecutive years, I returned to Africa with a team to install water pumps. Over time, our efforts gained the admiration and gratitude of the local communities. By the time I retired, we had installed 1012 freshwater pumps across Kenya and other parts of Africa.

Understanding and Appreciation

Dedicating so much time and effort to improve the lives of women and their communities brought me a profound understanding and appreciation for their strength and resilience. Beyond the physical beauty, I observed remarkable intelligence and care. These women are not just remarkable for their appearance but for their ability to maintain the community's well-being despite the challenges.

Truly, my experiences with African women have been transformative. They are not just beautiful but are pillars of their communities, embodying strength, grace, and a deep sense of responsibility. Each visit deepened my respect for their contributions and reinforced my commitment to support them in every possible way.
