A Historic memcpy Fun: Train Robbery, Role-Playing, and Family Traditions

A few decades ago, in 2001 or 2002, I became a part of a unique cultural experience that can be best described as a theft in the spirit of historical re-enactment. It was a memorable and fun-filled weekend—part of a "train robber weekend" event. This article will take you through the story of how I donned a bandana, cowboy hat, and twin pistols to robbing a train during this intriguing period in time.

Background Context

Historic memcpy is known for the recurring "historical re-enactment" train ride a couple of hours away from the central hub. This event was designed as a thrilling weekend activity where participants could step into the shoes of historic figures and participate in dramatic scenes. Among them were train robbers, and I was one such participant.

The Event

Armed with my horse, bandana, and trusty cowboy hat, the day of excitement arrived. I twirled my twin pistols and set off to rob a train. The event was not your typical weekend getaway; it involved a series of intense and challenging roles. For about four consecutive Saturdays, I followed the narrative of the infamous blue-haired bandit, with my waist-length blue braids shining brightly against my black bandit hat and shirt.

Participation Partnership

As this was a memorable event for the family, my father also joined in on the fun. Together, we chased down the train, boarded it, and took a hostage. With my 'gang' by my side, we made off with a portion of the "loot." This was an exhilarating adventure that brought us closer together as a family.

The Sweat Struggle

As the story of my role as a train robber unfolded, it became evident that this was more than just a pretend activity. It was a commitment that demanded physical effort, especially during the hot summer months. We experienced the thrill of the chase, the excitement of robbing the train, and the adrenaline rush that comes with it.

The Aftermath and Legacy

Although the event was a success, the aftermath left a bittersweet taste. My father destroyed the video footage of our adventure because it didn’t align with his narrative of being the "best bandit." The video depicted him attempting to borrow a horse but almost bucking off, his failure to twirl his pistol, and my unique skill in shooting the deputy and trick twirling several times. This incident is a reminder of the personal touch and the reality behind the role-playing.

Preservation and Challenges

Despite the loss of the video footage, the memories lived on. To this day, I still have those shiny, fake pearl-handled pistols carefully stored away. My skill in trick twirling, however, has become a bit rusty, but I still remember the practical advice: practicing the twirl barefoot is not a wise idea, as it can hurt the toes when you drop the gun.

Conclusion

Reflecting on this train robbery adventure, it serves as a nostalgic and humorous reminder of a time when we embraced history and family toad through the lens of role-playing. While the event may have been a part of a larger re-enactment tradition, it left an unforgettable mark on my memory, teaching me valuable lessons about physical endurance and the importance of having fun with family.
