A Critical View on Dilwale: A Closer Look at the Bollywood Sensation

What you think about SRK's Dilwale? Let's break it down.

Shahrukh Khan and Kajol: An Irresistible Duo

I recently rewatched Dilwale and here’s my take, covering aspects ranging from Shahrukh Khan and Kajol's performances to the overall plot and audience reception.

1. Merit-Driven Success

The movie did incredibly well on its own terms, earning its successes without relying on the recent controversies involving Internet Hindus boycotting Shah Rukh Khan (SRK). It's clear that it stood on its merit, earning the love of the audience without the need for external supports.

2. A Phoenix from the Ashes

No makeup or miracle of medical science can fully explain Kajol's transformation. Her younger look is so refreshed that the Kajol from Dilwale DurGhaTinJo (DDLG) could almost serve as the elder sister of her Dilwale counterpart. This proves that age is just a number, and Kajol remains a timeless figure.

Varun Dhawan: The New Tushar Kapoor?

3. Varun's Role

We couldn't be more pleased to see Varun Dhawan establish himself as a leading man, earning the tag of the new Tushar Kapoor. With his looks and charisma, he truly carries the movie's charm, especially when compared to his earlier performances.

4. Role Expectations

Perhaps Varun explores a more left-of-centre role, showcasing his versatility. It's fascinating to see an actor stepping into the shadow of a legend and yet making his own impact.

Shahrukh Khan: The Unyielding Protagonist

5. Persistent Desire for Change

Shahrukh Khan proves once again that an Indian man can never escape the rat-race, even if he possesses immeasurable wealth. Despite his star power and illustrious history, he remains bound to follow paths less adventurous as he continues to prove his relevance and charm.

6. SRK in Partnership

The collaboration between Rohit Shetty and SRK, like pairing Sir Jadeja and AB de Villiers in a World XI, seems like an odd blend. Their strengths and styles don't necessarily align, leading to mixed results in the movie. However, the duo still managed to bring their unique touch to the film.

The Sizzle of DDLG and DDLJ

7. Kajol and Shahrukh's Chemistry

The chemistry between Kajol and Shahrukh Khan remains unbeatable, making their on-screen presence sizzle. It's a shame that their storyline in Dilwale seems underwhelming when compared to their earlier films, where they shone brightly. A Bollywood remake of Dilwale should aim for a smoother, more polished storyline, perhaps with a car or two less.

8. Dialogue and Plot Holes

The movie's dialogue and storyline suffer from too many holes. The supporting characters, such as Johny Lever, contribute little to the overall narrative. The plot could have been tightened with fewer elements and a more cohesive storyline, which would have made the movie more enjoyable.

Conclusion and Rating

I personally rated Dilwale at 2/5. The film lacks the continuity and depth that its star-studded cast and director could have provided. However, it's worth watching for its iconic actors, at least once. The movie is aptly named Dilwale because clearly, any Dimaagwale would struggle to sit through it.

While some may enjoy the melodrama and spectacle, Dilwale leaves much to be desired in terms of substance. Nonetheless, we continue to hope for better from such legendary figures in the future.
