A Comprehensive Ranking of Star Wars Films: From Revenge of the Sith to The Rise of Skywalker
A Comprehensive Ranking of Star Wars Films: From 'Revenge of the Sith' to 'The Rise of Skywalker'
Now that we have all nine Star Wars films in the main saga, it is time to rank them. This ranking ranges from the best to the worst, with an emphasis on Jedi/Sith interactions and Force interactions. Here is the detailed breakdown:
Rankings
1. Revenge of the Sith
My Goooood, the nostalgia I feel for it! The music in this one is the best in the Star Wars series. The duels, Anakin's turn to the Dark Side, and the dual bluegreen lightsaber combat are all unforgettable. The finale, including Anakin becoming Darth Vader, sadly, brings a tinge of sorrow. This film serves as the perfect conclusion of Anakin Skywalker's journey.
2. Return of the Jedi
While largely considered the best by fans, I have to mention Jedi's Fury and the incredible light saber battles. Particularly, the final showdown between Vader and Luke is a classic moment. This film brings a satisfying end to the saga and paves the way for new adventures.
3. Attack of the Clones
If you’re not a fan of sand, you’ll definitely enjoy the action scenes in 'Attack of the Clones.' The music and Obi-Wan's investigation add considerable depth to the film. This movie sets up important groundwork for the coming Clone Wars.
4. A New Hope, The Force Awakens, and The Clone Wars Movie
I cannot separate these three films. 'A New Hope' and 'The Force Awakens' are great, but 'The Clone Wars Movie' brings us the peak Star Wars experiences. These films are essential for the full Star Wars saga and deserve a high ranking, especially for those who are already familiar with the universe.
5. The Phantom Menace, Empire Strikes Back, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Every film holds its place, but these three films have a bit more work to do for me. Nevertheless, 'The Phantom Menace' has a memorable ensemble of music, including "Duel of the Fates," and the "Clash of the Lightsabers" remains a silhouette of this film.
6. The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story
'The Last Jedi' and 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' are both controversial. 'The Last Jedi' gets many reactions, with Anakin's redemption being thrown into the dirt. 'Solo' is fine but lacks significant Force elements, except for the exciting Maul scene with shorty Maul.
7. The Rise of Skywalker
To end the saga, 'The Rise of Skywalker' disappoints to some degree. The rise and fall of the Skywalker family are stirring, but some of the dramatic elements feel overcooked. It is essential for completeness but not my personal favorite.
Favorite Scenes and Interactions
Here are a few favorable scenes and interactions, particularly those involving Jedi/Sith interactions and the Force:
Jedi/Sith Interactions
Windu vs. Sidious — Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan vs. Anakin — Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan vs. Qui-Gon vs. Darth Maul — The Phantom Menace Rey vs. Bin Darth — Return of the Jedi Yoda vs. Sidious — Revenge of the Sith Luke vs. Vader defeating Sidious — Return of the Jedi Rey vs. Kylo Ren defeating Snoke and his guards — The Last Jedi Rey vs. Luke — The Last Jedi Luke vs. Kylo Ren — The Last Jedi Anakin vs. Dooku — Revenge of the Sith Yoda vs. Dooku — Attack of the ClonesConclusion
Notably, 'Return of the Jedi' stands out as my favorite film since it was released in 1983. The film fully embodies the Star Wars universe and the Jedi/Sith conflicts are the highlight.
