A Cinematic Journey through Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat House

Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat House: An Iconic Filmmaking Location

Shah Rukh Khan, one of the most significant figures in the world of Bollywood, has left an indelible mark on cinema not just through his performances but also through the locations he has chosen for his films. Among these, Mannat House, his personal residence, has been an iconic part of numerous Bollywood films. However, it is the 2017 film Raees where Mannat House truly stands out as the protagonist's residence, cementing its place in cinematic history.

The Role of Mannat House in Bollywood:

Mannat House has been featured in several films, but its most notable appearance was in Raees (2017). The house has also been used in Angaar (1992) where it was featured as the residence of gangsters. Prior to SRK's ownership, the bungalow had been used in the 1988 film Tezaab, where it served as the home of Mohini, played by Madhuri Dixit.

The famous bungalow, which SRK later renamed Mannat, has a rich history before he took ownership. The house was once the residence of a mafia don in the 1992 film Angaar, where it was featured as the home of a benevolent gangster and his tyrannical son. This bungalow, now owned by the Badshah of Bollywood, has become a beloved tourist attraction, drawing in fans to catch a glimpse of the iconic mansion. "Mannat" comes with a price tag of approximately 200 crore, though SRK initially bought it for just 13.32 crore in 2001.

The Security Dilemma:

While some scenes of FAN (2016) were shot from the interiors of Mannat, the Mumbai Police cited security reasons, preventing the producers from capturing the interiors. This underscores the significance of the location, as it must be managed with great care to protect the privacy of its owner.

Looking Back at Old Mannat:

Tezaab (1988) is one of the films where the older version of Mannat can still be seen. The house, back then, was rather simple, with no lawn or garden, and an ordinary gate. However, during SRK’s ownership, significant changes were made. Take, for example, the song 'Kisi ki muskurahato pe' (from the 1951 film Anari), where Raj Kapoor is seen exiting Mannat, showcasing a different version of the house. Interestingly, the final scene of the same song shows the old version of Mannat with the same ramp that exists even today. These details well illustrate the transformation the house underwent under SRK's stewardship.

For fans and cinephiles, Mannat House remains not just a location, but a piece of cinematic history. It's a fascinating journey through the changing times and the enduring popularity of one of Bollywood's most celebrated actors.
